The mission of the research and technology group

The main zones of our group’s activity:

  • Intelligent and multi-agent digital control and navigation systems
  • control and condition monitoring systems based on the Internet of Things
  • Implementation of artificial intelligence-based control and condition monitoring algorithms on suitable hardware for Edge Computing.
  • Designing, building and analyzing processing systems based on reconfigurable chips (FPGA)
  • Designing data-oriented software and hardware systems
  • Fault-tolerant systems and reliability engineering

History of research group activity

Intelligent control and monitoring research and technology group’s activity is initiated based on the technological and entrepreneurial activities of students and faculty members in the Persian Gulf University in the laboratory of intelligent digital control systems and with the main focuses on

  • intelligent control and navigation
  • high-speed and data-oriented digital systems
  • Fault-tolerant systems.

This laboratory, which was established in the Faculty of Engineering in 2015  and has been developing since then, is equipped with several appropriate laboratory board sets, prototyping and electronic circuit design equipment, and has the capacity to host 15  students at the same time.

Currently, there are numerous small and big industrial and student projects in the field of FPGA-based systems, especially SPARTAN6, SPARTAN3 and Zynq series, as well as Cortex ARM, STM, LPC processors, along with ZedBoard, RaspberryPi, OrangePi development boards and Arduino boards, along with the works based on Internet of Things (IoT) and digital processing system design, Intelligent control and navigation, condition monitoring of rotating equipment and intelligent monitoring, reliability engineering and fault tolerant systems design and consulting.

In the field of entrepreneurship, 2  start-up companies (Adan Electric and Aryaman) and 9 products have been produced from the results of the students’ performance in this laboratory – two of which have resulted in patents and one with continuous production and sale besides several academic research projects.

  • Monitoring and consulting on the implementation of remote monitoring systems in the gas distribution network of Bushehr province
  • Feasibility of monitoring the drilling pipe line with RFID technology
  • Discrete time processing of signals received from CODAR radar
  • Designing and building a smart aquarium to keep corals and control parameters related to their growth and reproduction
  • Intelligent evaluation system for tile quality
