Collaboration in Conceptual Design of an Intelligent Sailing Boats Suitable for Persian Gulf and Feasibility Study of its Manufacturing
Nowadays, the use of unmanned intelligent boats has become a strategic technology for countries worldwide. They are used for various civilian applications and military purposes. Reputable companies and universities around the globe have made significant efforts in this field over the past decade, with some products being used for military and non-military purposes in various seas, including the Persian Gulf.
Given the importance of acquiring the technical knowledge for designing and building these vessels, preliminary feasibility studies for designing and constructing unmanned intelligent boats were reviewed in this research. The research subject was examined in eight specialties, including:
- Design and construction of the vessel structure,
- Energy studies and energy supply and consumption sources,
- Design and construction of mechanical parts,
- Design and construction of the energy conversion system and electric propulsion system,
- Design and construction of electronic systems,
- Telecommunication systems for data transmission,
- Control and navigation systems of the vessel, and
- Implementation of artificial intelligence in various functions of the vessel.
Since this vessel has a nonlinear time-varying model, it appears that any model-based control would not function optimally in a real environment. Therefore, in the intelligent guidance and navigation section, the focus should initially be on finding suitable methods:
- independent of the model, or if such methods do not exist,
- finding suitable methods for estimating the time-varying model and then applying control according to the estimated model. In either case, AI-based methods can be used as a system for estimation and control application. Additionally, this system must receive various information from the transducer unit and make necessary adjustments if the information needs correction or integration with other data.
The milestone in achieving this technology is the development of artificial intelligence for controlling and managing the learning vessel in various weather conditions and maritime missions.
The Intelligent Control and Monitoring Group has played a role as a collaborator in this project by studying existing technologies, products, and inventions and contributing to the conceptual design of the intelligent controller for such vessels.
